Food Pantry Grant Arrives Just In Time

Sierra HOPE has received a grant of $1000 from the Federlein Family Fund of the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) to support our Community Food Pantry.  “The surprise grant arrived just in time” according to Sierra HOPE Executive Director Jerry Cadotte.  “We spend about $500 a month on food and had only about $200 left in our fund.”

The Calaveras Community Foundation has been a major source of support for the food pantry, including a $4,500 grant in April 2020.  The pantry serves about 100 families a month, many of them seniors and disabled residents who have limited incomes.  Sierra HOPE’s community food pantry is open every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3 PM.

Most of the food comes from the Resource Connection Food Bank in San Andreas, where pantries can obtain food in bulk and case quantities for a share of cost equal to about $0.18 a pound that covers shipping and handling.  Aria Bakery in Murphys also provides weekly donations of bread and baked goods.
